Before I begin, I've to say that I'm indebted to Degen for the inexpensive worldband radio they'd made for us and the buggy program that comes with it :) :) :) - Make sure there is at least one unused memory slot on Page 7. Pressing the (DEL) button would delete the station present you're tuning to. - Go to Page 8 by pressing (P) + (8). - Hold down (DEL) button for about 1 sec and hit the (hit) once again to wipe Page 8's present memory completely clean. - Tune the radio to any mediumwave frequency and store it to any one number on page 8. I would prefer 522 kHz. - Store the frequency on any number on Page 8. - Turn to Page 7 by pressing (P) + (7). Do not miss this step. - Turn off the radio by pressing the (POWER) button. - Lock and then unlock the radio by pressing (M/LOCK) twice. - Turn the radio back on again. The (POWER) button would do that of course. - set the radio to MEM memory scan mode by pressing the (SCAN) button, if your radio is in STEP mode. The word "MEM" should be displayed on the screen by now. - Hit the minus button (-). The radio would tune to the mediumwave frequency you'd stored on Page 8. Notice that you're still at Page 7, tuning to a frequency stored on Page 8. - Hit the FM band switch (FM/BASS). The screen would read 05.22 MHz FM. The radio isn't tuned to 5.22MHz in FM mode of course. - Switch back to frequency scan mode by pressing the (SCAN) button once. The word "STEP" should be displayed by now. - Hold the minus button (-) until it reaches 05.11 or lower. If you'd like to tune to 198kHz, tune the radio to "01.98MHz" by means of the (+) and the (-) button. - Suppose we're at "01.98 MHz FM" right now, press the memory button which you have made empty on Page 7 at the beginning of this hack. The radio should be tuned to 198kHz "MW" by now, in normal AM mode. Voila! Rather than LW, even 1.800-2.995 MHz shortwave AM mode is possible. On the hacked FM mode, adjust the radio to 17.00 to 29.95 MHz, and then call the empty memory number again. However, this part of the spectrum isn't very usable on this radio since it suffers severe image rejection problems on this part of the band. That's about it. Happy listening. 73, Yogesh (aus der Yahoo Group Degen/Kaito DE 1102) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KAITO-DEGEN1102/
